Renato is Professor of Law at King’s College London, where he is the Director of the Centre of Construction Law and Dispute Resolution. In 2025 he was appointed King’s Counsel (Hon) for his major contribution to English law.
An experienced arbitrator and counsel in international arbitration, he has a wide industry knowledge, including foreign investments, construction and engineering, steel and heavy industries, oil and gas, infrastructure, energy, IT and digital, IP, pharmaceuticals, transport, commodities, and consumer goods. He is a specialist in ICSID arbitration and ISDS more generally and has published widely on the subject. Having served for seven years as a UK Government lawyer, he is skilled in disputes involving states and issues of public and governmental policy.
He has worked as chair/president, wing member/party-appointed arbitrator, sole arbitrator and emergency arbitrator under most internationally used rules (ICC, SIAC, DIAC, CAM, etc.). He brings to his work as arbitrator also his substantial experience as counsel. Aware of the multi-cultural dimension of many international disputes and experienced in civil law and common law, he has worked across Europe, Africa, Asia and America.
Member of the ICC Arbitration and ADR Commission, Italy. Member of the ICC Task Force on Dealing with Corruption Issues in International Arbitration. Member of the Board of the International Construction Law Association and of Africa Construction Law. Admitted to the following panels and lists of arbitrators: SIAC, DIAC, SCCA, Polish Chamber of Commerce, Serbian Construction Dispute Resolution Centre panels and HKIAC panel of adjudicators and list of arbitrators.
